  2. Hi my name is Joycelyne and I'm Grace's mother.

My primary global connection is Malaysia where I was born and where my parents, my brother & his family reside. We are Chinese Malaysians which means that we are of Chinese descent but born in Malaysia. My father's grandparents arrived in Malaysia from China in mid 1800s and made his wealth from rubber plantations - I think! or was it rice fields!!

Grace's Dad & I moved to NZ after we got married in 2003 and Auckland is now our home.

My Chinese name is " Fei Li" whilst Grace's chinese name is Sze Ting which means a poem of a voluptous woman!

Malaysia was historically a trading central for spices & raw material. If you check out the map, Malaysia is situated right in the middle of the shipping route in Asia connecting the east & the west. As a result of that, over a period of time Malaysia has become a little global city in itself with about 50million people from 3 main races - Malays, Chinese, & Indians. Europeans too have inter-married with the locals & their children are called Eurasians.

Other than Malaysia, I'm connected to England where I lived for nearly 7 years & where I went to high school & ultimately got my degree.

Living in England, it was extremely cheap to travel to New York from London ($99 return in 1980). I also jumped on the hovercraft to Calais, France and from there did an unforgettable trip around Europe. It took me a whole year to save $1000 working at a local Chinese restaurant in weekends & with that money I went to France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium & Monaco. I spent 5 amazing weeks travelling - slept in train stations, monastries, backpackers where it was cheap to stay, worked in an organic farm for board & lodging, before my money ran out.

No doubt, Grace & I will contact our friends & families we have around the world and encourage them to join in Rm14's latest cool project! (Making the pizza oven last term was totally awesome guys!! Great job & loved the pizzas!)

  8. Hi Grace,
This is the Putt Family,(friends of the Ghee Family) we have huge global connections currently with the work Gary does travelling to Chile, USA, Iceland, Norway, Italy, USA, Korea, China, Indonesia, Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong, and Japan that has just been in the last year. Gary has connections with England where his family travelled over on the William Bryant Ship to New Zealand, he was born in New Zealand and is fifth generation kiwi.

My connection go back to England on my father's side and Raiatea on my mothers side. Born in New Zealand of English, French, Tahitian and Maori. My gobal connection has been a passion to travel and have adventure where ever I go and which ever country I am in. I did my schooling in Austrialia and New Zealand. After completing my degree and gaining a couple of years work experience, I set off to see the world, travelling to Australia and going from Sydney driving round the top of Australia (living in a van and tent for a few months) down to Perth for the Americas Cup, living in Perth and working for a few months. Then I moved on to South East Asia, starting at Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, India, Hong Kong, China and Macau, mainly back packing.(this trip took just over 6 months) From here I went to Holland, then onto England (where I lived and works for a few years), visiting Scotland, Wales and Irleand. Next stop was round Europe visiting varies countries Belguim, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Monarco, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey, Greece, Russia. After Europe and while over that side of the world I decided to travel overland down thru Africa for 7 months. Going to the following countries Morocco, Algeria, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Congo, Zaire, Rewanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe. I travelled back to New Zealand via a 3 month trip thru the USA. All up I was away for five years working and travelling.

Since returing back to New Zealand in 1990, I have settled into seeing the pacific islands, Soloman, Vanuatu, Tonga, Vavau, Rarotonga, Tahiti and French Polynesia Bora Bora and Moorea, Samoa, Fiji, Tincan Island.

My travelling now is at a more leisurely pace and I am just waiting for the next cruise to go visit a couple of new islands.

My two brothers and mother live in Australia, along with a number of Uncles, Aunts and cousins. I have uncles and aunts, cousins in England and the USA and many many friends all over the world.

  9. I'm Gracie's Uncle Dah Dom from Wellington. I'm a born and bred Kiwi but my Mum & Dad are both from Guangzhou province in China. I have Aunties, Uncles and cousins in China, Canada, USA and UK. My brother's and sisters are in Australia.

Our global family still owns an ancestral home in China. This is the home where all our ancestors lived and grew up before some of them left China to go overseas. Some of the family from NZ, Australia, Canada and China are all working together to rebuild the ancestral home because it is an important part of our heritage and family history. We are all doing this together from our own homes in other countries using postal mail, internet email and telephone to talk to each other and share ideas.

I have worked for many global companies including IBM, Vodafone, Compaq and HP. At HP we have over 250,000 people connected to the company email system so there is lots of work and discussions sent every day too.

So even if I spend most of my time in NZ, I am connected to the rest of the world everyday..

  11. Hi Grace,

I'm Carine, the mother of Anne-Sophie nearly 7 year old in January 2009. She's your brother's friend.

We all born in Belgium. I lived there for 42 years. My family never left Belgium unless it is for holidays.

I'm a great traveler, once I started to visiting countries outside Europe my feets started tickling. I wanted a change instead of being a visitor I wanted to discover what's to be an expatriate.

I lived in New Zealand for 2,5year where I met you.
    Now I live in Dubai.

I'm very keen to the English culture and I like sun and my eyes like watching to nice things. And that is Dubai.
Even if Dubai is a muslin country I don't feel it. It is hard not to forget that I live in the Golf.

From New Zealand I was impress by the number of runners early in the morning. It seems unbelievable here in Dubai with their 25-30 degres there are also lots of runners. And that's what I do training not for the marathon but for the half marathon. Incredible the numbers of runners events over here.

Here in Dubai you can find everything and you can do everything.
It is a country where everything is possible.
It is a friendly active country.
It is a nice - pleasant - "office" in the middle of the world.

I spend July and August in Europe and that is great.
September is a hot and tricky month here in Dubai but it is manageable. Because school finish at 1.30pm during that month, it is a perfect timing to spend an after school beach time.
From October the weather starts to be perfect. We have greats evenings. Live is outdoor until mid-night.

We have nice beaches and it is fun to spend time over there - to have picnics - catch the fish - enjoy a chat in the warm water. The dessert is a great place for camping - picnic - play time.

Dubai is also an "Hotel live" Anne-Sophie loves the kids club in there.

It is also a "Mall live" for cinemas, shopping.

Strange all these but not bad after all.

Don't forget there is a great outdoor live as well!
I didn't go in details but all what you can thing you can do here.

The countries we did and some of them where we have friends are:
